Addressing the need for better education around healthy eating and nutrition

Cargill will be supporting Fuel for School, a curriculum enrichment programme that provides a weekly delivery of food to schools which was introduced in September 2018.  This will be launched in 2018/19 academic year and will replace the previous Healthy Lifestyles Challenge. In addition to the delivery of food, it provides educational support and resources to schools in teaching food-based learning based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Professionals in schools are provided with access to 1:1 training and group training opportunities linked to food and a sustainable future.

In 2011, Cargill teamed up with a local sport and education trust to address the need for better education around healthy eating and nutrition at local schools in the Lincolnshire area.

Since being established, more than 2,000 children have participated in the programme and nearly 50 local schools have benefitted. Cargill’s support to the Lincoln City FC Sport & Education Trust ensures they are able to run a programme targeting primary school students over a six week period. The activities aim to raise awareness in schools about the importance and value of a healthy lifestyle, emphasizing areas such as diet and exercise. In the first four years of the programme, over 1,400 children walked over 600 million steps – the same distance as walking to the moon!
